Battle Mechanics

Understanding hate values, armor types, and mercenary roles is crucial for success in combat. This guide breaks down how battles work.

Tutorial guide 1

Hate Values (Aggro System)

Hate values determine how much aggro or threat a character generates in combat. Enemies prioritize targets with higher hate values.

How Hate Works

Each character has a base hate determined by their class type. Equipment modifiers are added on top of this base value to calculate total starting hate.

๐Ÿ’ก Example: Wearing all heavy armor (pauldrons, greaves, body plate, helmet) gives approximately +20-40 additional hate on top of a character's base hate.

Hate by Mercenary Role

Role Base Hate Description
Defender 30-50 Tanks who excel at soaking up damage and controlling aggro. Skills to draw enemy attention.
Attacker 5-10 Swordsmen, thieves, and mages focused on dealing damage.
Debilitator 0 Specialize in hindering and reducing enemy lethality through spells/abilities.
Supporter -10 Healers, buffers, debuffers, and utility skills. Generates negative hate (less aggro).

Armor Types & Hate Modifiers

Different armor categories affect both protection and hate generation. Choose wisely based on your role.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Heavy Armor

High protection.

Hate modifier: +5 to +10

Best for: Defenders / Tanks

๐Ÿ‘• Light Armor

Moderate protection.

Hate modifier: +1 to +3

Best for: Attackers / Debilitators

๐Ÿ‘— Clothing

Minimal protection.

Hate modifier: -5 to -10

Best for: Supporters

Armor Type Protection Hate Modifier Best Role
Heavy Armor High +5 to +10 per piece Defender
Light Armor Moderate +1 to +3 per piece Attacker / Debilitator
Clothing Minimal -5 to -10 per piece Supporter

Mercenary Roles

Mercenaries can fulfill various combat roles. Understanding their strengths is key to party optimization.

โš”๏ธ Attacker

Base Hate: 5-10

Mercenaries who focus on dealing damage. Includes swordsmen, thieves, and mages. Their priority is eliminating enemies quickly.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Defender

Base Hate: 30-50

Tanks who excel at soaking up damage and controlling aggro. They possess skills to draw enemy attention away from teammates. Essential for party survival.

๐Ÿงช Debilitator

Base Hate: 0

Specialize in hindering and reducing the lethality of enemies through spells or abilities. They weaken foes to make them easier to defeat.

๐Ÿ’š Supporter

Base Hate: -10

A diverse range of mercenaries with unique support skills. Some focus on healing, while others provide buffs, debuffs, or utility skills. Their low hate generation keeps them safe from enemy focus.

Optimizing Your Party

By understanding hate values and choosing mercenaries suited to their roles, you can optimize your team composition:

  • Tank (Defender) โ€” Equip heavy armor to maximize hate and draw enemy attacks.
  • DPS (Attacker) โ€” Light armor for moderate protection without drawing too much aggro.
  • Support (Supporter) โ€” Clothing to minimize hate and stay out of enemy focus.
  • Controller (Debilitator) โ€” Light armor or clothing; their hate-neutral role allows them to operate freely.
